John is no stranger to racing, coming from a long line of industry professionals with his grandfather being a trainer and his late father a jockey. Whilst he spent his free time in the early years helping his grandfather, John’s first position in the industry was with the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) as a qualified 2IC of Tracks. This time valuable spent at Morphettville gave John an in depth understanding of the track and the importance it plays with racing success.
In 2001, John started working for Byron Cozamanis at his Morphettville Stables, as Foreman. Whilst working for Byron, John learned the “training essentials” from this experienced trainer.
In the 2008/2009 season, John gained his trainers license and relocated to Finniss Lodge. Since that time, Jon has proven himself to be a knowledgeable and dedicated trainer. John uses a very “hands on” approach in his training technique and personally attends to all facets of the racing operation.
